Counseling is prescribed for all youth (and their parents, if involved). The object is to address all the issues affecting the whole person, and to deal with the root causes of woundedness from a mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual perspective.
These specialized programs are for those whose treatment plans require it, e.g., Psychological Counseling for abuse and PTSD, Anger Management, Gang Intervention, Substance Abuse, Self-Esteem issues, etc.
TILT uses equine therapy (horses), canine therapy (dogs), and other animal-assisted therapies to help bring about emotional healing to its residents. Art, music (instrumental and vocal), gardening and agricultural projects, and other therapeutic activities are used to enhance emotional and mental health.
Various types of physical fitness training and sports are used to maintain optimal physical health and strength, to relieve stress, to help fight depression, to build self-esteem , and to produce many other benefits. Healthy nutrition will also be maintained because diet is oftentimes a big factor in behavioral issues.
These youth-led meetings focus on morality, spirituality, team bonding, and emotional health. They are designed to build character and deep personal convictions and values that will guide a young person through life.
Most communities have existing youth-oriented programs that promote self-confidence, academic excellence, and economic empowerment, e.g., Rites of Passage programs into manhood. TILT will tap into these when needed for the benefit of its youth.
Trips are regularly scheduled to museums, historical landmarks, recreational locations, sporting events, camping, other states and countries, etc.
Community service activities foster personal growth by regularly practicing giving back to others. The idea of giving to and serving others is one of the great leadership values TILT hopes to instill in all youth.
